Roswell Hosts 31st Roswell Relays Track Meet

The Coaches’ Hospitality Suite for the Roswell Relays is the reason you want to volunteer by itself! Celebrating over 30 years of collaboration between the Roswell HS Track & Field team, the Booster Club and the Roswell Rotary Club, Saturday, March 21 was a great day to be at the track for the largest AND longest continually running track meet in the State of Georgia. This year we hosted 27 teams from across the state who threw, jumped, and ran. The elite competition saw over 1100 tickets sold! When you combine that with almost 1000 athletes, 47 coaches and 50 Rotarian Volunteers, you have a packed house of 2,250+/-enthusiasts. RRC President Trummie Patrick III would like to congratulate Roswell Rotarians Michael Curling, chair of the event, with Mindy Jones overseeing the Hospitality Suite and James Stone corralling the volunteers (not in the Hospitality Suite) for their continued commitment to this incredible annual event.

Roswell Relays is a true community-wide event with over 25 restaurants donating food for both breakfast and lunch items to the Hospitality Suite. The coaches are met with smiles, a place to sit out of the weather, eat, charge their phones and catch-up with their fellow coaches. Roswell Rotarians not only set up, staff and break-down the Hospitality Suite in the RHS cafeteria but also monitor parking all day, serve as line judges and gate-monitors throughout the events. The RHS Interact Club student members sign up to help run food to coaches and volunteer on the field during the event.

Every Spring since 1996, the Roswell Rotary Club and Roswell High School have sponsored this invitational track meet. The goal is to not only provide a high-profile opportunity for high school track & field athletes to compete but also a robust fundraiser for the booster club! A full slate of field events is held in the morning like shot put, discus, high jump, pole vault, etc. This is then followed by track and relay events in the afternoon. The strong emphasis on relay events builds a spirit of teamwork among the athletes and creates a high energy atmosphere during the daylong event.
