She joined Children’s in January 2013 after 10 years as Vice President Corporate Services for Engineering Design Technologies, Inc. She previously owned Pam Younker Accounting and Tax Service and was Senior Internal Auditor for Lockheed. Pam's career began at Oxford Industries, Inc. after she graduated from the University of Georgia, with a degree in Accounting. Having grown up in McCaysville, Georgia, Pam loves the north Georgia mountains.
Pam serves nationally as an Air and Space Forces Civic Leader, under the direction of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force and the Secretary of the Air Force. Pam has also been involved in the local community for many years. She chaired the Honorary Commanders Program for the Cobb Chamber of Commerce for 3 years and is a graduate of Leadership Cobb, where she has chaired and participated in many committees. Currently, Pam is co-chair of Team Dobbins, an initiative to assist community involvement with our local military. She is an active participant in Atlanta Regional Affairs Military Council, Cobb Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Cobb Sheriff’s Foundation Board of Directors, Cobb 2020 Steering Committee, Town Center CID Advisory Board, Victoria's Friends Ministry, and Burnt Hickory Baptist Church.
Pam has been the recipient of many awards, a few which include – Outstanding Alumnus of the Terry College of Business for the University of Georgia; Alpha Chi Omega Real Strong Women of Distinction Award; “Best of the Best” Award for Dobbins Air Reserve Base; Marietta, Georgia Citizen of the Year; MUST Ministry Servant of the Year; YWCA Woman of Tribute.
Pam is married to Ron Younker. They met at the University of Georgia, where Ron was Drum Major, and Pam was a member of the Georgette Drill Team. Ron is formerly of Southern Company, and was Vice President of Human Resources for Cobb EMC. He now owns Younker and Associates, a leadership development company. Pam and Ron have 2 grown sons, David and John. David is an attorney in Marietta, and is married to the former Katy Hansen of Jacksonville, Florida. David and Katy have 2 children, Sevy, 8, and William, 6. Pam and Ron’s younger son, John, is a veterinarian in Atlanta, and he is married to the former Sarah Stokes, of Warner Robins, Nurse Educator for the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Healthcare. John and Sarah, have a 6 year old daughter, Josie Mae, and 2 year old son, Caleb.
Pam’s job with Children’s Healthcare keeps her very busy. In her spare time, Pam likes to spend time with family and friends. She also has enjoys mentoring young people and working with all branches of the military. 7p North Cobb: Volunteer: Acworth P&R Horizon League Softball Buddy NCRC has committed to being Horizon League buddies on September 8 for two games - 7 pm and 8 pm. Ten buddies are needed. Acworth Sports Complex, 4000 South Main St, Acworth, GA 30101. The Horizon League provides children and young adults with developmental and physical disabilities the opportunity to participate in athletic events, develop lasting relationships among their peers, coaches, and parents and demonstrate to them that they are an important part of their community by creating an environment of inclusion for both the participants and their families. Games are non-competitive and each player on the roster gets on base before the opposing team gets to bat. These Horizon athletes are encouraged by a buddy. | 9 | 10 9 Buckhead: Atlanta Memorial Park Work Day, Saturday, Sept 10th Atlanta Memorial Park is one of the largest parks in Atlanta and is the recipient of a grant from our Buckhead Parks Initiative. The park has beautiful walkways and is full of many varieties of trees. The Atlanta Memorial Park organization wants people who come to the park to be able to identify each kind of tree, and they're doing this by giving each tree a unique number. Enter that number on a custom-designed app on your phone, and you'll learn all about the tree. Our job on Saturday morning, September 10th is to help them number the trees with those little metal tags. We'll meet at 9 AM and work until noon. You should plan to bring your own hammer. Atlanta Memorial Park is along Northside Drive near Woodward Way and Peachtree Creek. We will meet near the corner of Woodward Way/Oldfield Road across from 664 Woodward Way. Volunteers can park on the park side of the street. |
11 | 12 7 Roswell: 44th Annual Aubrey Greenway Golf Tournament
Play Golf, Do Good
Seeing a need for a community fundraiser, Roswell Rotarians Frank Brown, Judge Maurice Hilliard and former Mayor of Roswell Aubrey Greenway began a golf tournament in 1978. The first tournament, raised $3500 for charities in the North Fulton community. While the tournament initially started as a Rotary event, it has grown into one of the largest 100% volunteer community fundraisers . Today, the golf & tennis tournaments continue to support charities in North Fulton and generate close to $200,000 a year. The tournament attracts large and small business sponsors and individuals in North Fulton looking to make a difference in the areas in which they live and do business. The tournament was named after Aubrey Greenway, after his death in 1991. Aubrey was a dedicated local businessman, civil servant and Roswell Rotarian. Thanks Aubrey!

Serving Up Charity
In 2013, the Hagan Cup Classic tennis tournament was added to the fundraiser. It was named after Bob Hagan, in honor of his service to the community and his deep commitment to Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self.
Today, the tournament continues to support the charities in North Fulton communities and together with the golf tournament, generates $150,000+ a year. The tournament attracts large and small business sponsors and individuals in North Fulton looking to make a difference in the areas in which they live and do business.

We hope to see you on the court! | 13 | 14 | 15 7:15 North Cobb: Regular Meeting - Judge Rob Leonard - Judge, Cobb Superior Court Guest Chief Judge Rob Leonard, was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal to the Superior Court of Cobb County in November of 2012, and has been elected to that position twice following his appointment. Immediately preceding that, Judge Leonard was serving on the bench in the State Court of Cobb County. He was appointed to that position by Governor Sonny Perdue in 2010 and was elected to retain that position.
Prior to taking the bench, Judge Leonard maintained his law practice in Marietta where he represented a diverse array of citizens on many types of civil and criminal matters. Judge Leonard has been a recipient of the prestigious Justice Robert Benham Award for community service. He has recognized with the “President’s Award” from both the Cobb Bar and GACDL. He has received an award for “Distinguished Judicial Service” from the State Bar’s young Lawyers Division and the “Thomas Charron Public Service Award” for his work helping to guide the judiciary through the pandemic and in training judges across Georgia on best practices for conducting remote proceedings. Judge Leonard was recognized as a “Georgia Super Lawyer Rising Star” for three consecutive years, from 2009 to 2011. He was the 2006 recipient of the “Ross Adams Award” given out by the Cobb County Bar Association. In 2009, he won the “Greatest Trial Victory of the Year” award from a group of prominent defense lawyers. Judge Leonard was featured in Cobb Life’s 2013 edition of the “Top 20 Under 40” and the Daily Report’s “40 Under 40” publications.
Judge Leonard served on the Board of Directors for the Tommy Nobis Center for 14 years, advocating to remove barriers and provide job training and placement for people with disabilities. He also served on the Board of the Leadership Cobb Alumni Association and is an alumnus of the Leadership Cobb Class of 2013. He is also a member of the 2022 Honorary Commanders class.
He received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Kentucky. Judge Leonard and his wife live in Marietta. They have three children and three black labs. 12:15p Thomasville: Regular Meeting - President Richard Carvajal - Valdosta State University President Guest Dr. Richard A. Carvajal is the 10th president of Valdosta State University. Dr. Carvajal assumed his post on January 1, 2017.
Dr. Richard Carvajal is living proof of the transformative power of higher education. His is a story of growing up in poverty and overcoming obstacles thanks to a commitment to never quit and the incredible influence of caring mentors. He excitedly joins VSU’s outstanding faculty and staff in paying it forward to today’s learners.
“Who else,” Carvajal often asks, “gets to go to work every day knowing that their mission that day is to change someone’s life?”
Carvajal is also a cancer survivor, and he credits the love and support he received from so many throughout South Georgia with helping him survive. It is a big reason he is honored to serve as the president of South Georgia’s flagship university and calls South Georgia his home.
Prior to coming to VSU, Carvajal served as president of Bainbridge State College from 2011 to 2015. Then, in 2015, he was asked by the Chancellor of the University System of Georgia to assume the role of interim president of Dalton State College. There, he helped co-lead the creation of a new, consolidated Albany State University.
Prior to coming to Georgia, Carvajal served as Vice President for Student Success Services at Cascadia College in Washington, and he held related positions in student services in Kansas, South Carolina, and Illinois.
Carvajal is a graduate of Leadership Georgia, the state’s premiere leadership development program. He was also a Lyndon B. Johnson Congressional Fellow, a World Affairs Council Fellow, and a Washington Center Minority Fellow.
Carvajal holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration from The University of South Carolina, a master of science in college student personnel administration from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and a bachelor of science in mass communication and sociology from East Central University (Oklahoma).
Carvajal is married to Dr. Cheryl Carvajal, who is, herself, an accomplished educator and writer. Together, they have two children. Proceeds benefit the Kennesaw Public Safety Foundation and the Acworth Police Community Foundation. These charities each provide support to public safety employees in need and work to build relationships between public safety and their communities. The ride will begin at 10:30am from Henssler Financial- 3735 Cherokee St NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. The route proceeds north to Cartersville, east to Jasper, and back down to Cobb County. comes into the fall on the heels of four consecutive 20-win seasons (not
counting the COVID-shorten season of 2020-21). Two of those campaigns resulted
in ASUN Tournament championships and trips to the NCAA Tournament, and the Owls
have finished in the top 75 of the RPI three times, including a program-best
42nd in the 2017 season.
The Owls
have posted six consecutive top-two finishes in the ASUN, including this past
season when its 13-3 league mark was tied for second-best in the conference
standings. In 2021, Schunzel guided the Owls to their sixth-win over a Power
Five school in the past five years with a 3-0 sweep over Alabama. KSU also
recorded a 12-game win streak during the season, which was the 7th-longest
such streak in the nation at that time before the Owls suffered a 3-2 loss in
the ASUN semifinals.
The
two-time ASUN Coach of the Year brings a 158-89 all-time record at KSU into the
fall season, and is just four wins away from 100 league victories with a 96-38
ASUN mark. He has also seen the Owls perform at a high level in the classroom
over his nine seasons, with four AVCA Team Academic Awards and 18 straight
